I LOVED screeprinting. Having never done it before it was all new to me. Myself and Mags worked as a pair again and this made the learning process a lot easier as we helped each other.
I opted to use text as the bases for my print as I had used pure image for all my previous designs. 'YOU CANT GET SICK TILL MONDAY' is a phrase I conjured up to represent the local hospital in my home town closing some of it's wards at weekends. I wanted the text to speak for itself so I kept the colors to a minimum and used just black and red.
Once I had my initial screenprints I played around with the image....printing duplicates of the pointing finger etc...

Woodblock!!!

My images for my woodblock represent the theme of a 'Broken Ireland'- the 'broken people of Ireland' caused by the recession and the current economic crisis. Pablo Picassos' Cubist work along with George Braque inspired my designs.

These are my finished woodblock prints. The First is a reduction print using 3 colors- yellow, turquoise and black.  The heads represent the shattered people of this country. The second is a basic black and white woodcut. The head is controlled by a puppet string- a metaphor for how the Government is controlling the country. I played around with chine colle and collage. I really enjoyed woodblock and want to practice it more again on the next brief.

RESEARCH DRAWINGS AND COLLAGE!!!!

These are some images from my sketchbook which are research ideas for the 'Protest' brief.

SECOND BRIEF!!!!!!!

For our next brief we were given the option of two different topics. The first was entitled' PROTEST' and the second was 'HUMOUR'. Having played around with the concept of humour in my first brief I choose to work on the topic of 'PROTEST'. After initial brainstorming I decided to work on the theme of social injustice and whats going on in Ireland at the moment with the Recession.
In CCS we had been studying Cubism and Pablo Picasso and some of my drawings were inspired by Picassos work 'Guernica'. I was in the woodcut block for the 1st three weeks of this brief. I had worked on woodblock before so I was looking forward to learning more on the technique.

Litho continued!!!!

 When printing myself and Mags worked as a pair and we helped each other learn the process of using the litho printing press. I found it good working in pairs as we both got to do it twice....once with my stone and again with Mags'. I found then when it came to doing my second image, even though we still worked in pairs, I was well versed in the process and a lot more confident. My second image was one of a dog with human eyes which I had sketched in my sketchbook. I had cut the eyes from a magazine so It was a collage. To transfer the eyes onto  the stone I used acetone. Both images were successful and I was pleased with the results and felt I got a really good feel for the whole process of Lithography. I learnt how to use the press and achieve the desired build up of tone on the print.
