EDITION PRINT

As part of an edition box set in which our class is creating for a swap with The University of Chicago, Illinois I made a screen print. I used the drawing I had made of a set of screwdrivers hanging on the wall of the workshop.
My print is a 3 color Screen print.

PRINTS-ETCHINGS

My drawings developed further into prints. From a selection of my images I etched zinc plates and subsequently developed etchings. I also aim to show my plates as final pieces too.

WOODTURNING

I have been thought how to use the turning lathe by my father. Wanting to utilize my new skill and because my work incorporates Daddy passing on his woodturning knowledge to me I want to create a collection of turned objects. These are based on the design of the chisel handles....the tools used to turn the wood. They are turned by myself using American Oak wood. I am leaving them unpolished and raw. I aim to turn a large quantity of them.

HANDS- The tools of the trade

 Essentially the hands are the tools of anyones trade and in my Dads case they were what enabled him tone such a skill full carpenter.  I want to build a collection of photographs of Dads hands, different viewpoints, close ups etc. I aim to emphasis their uniqueness and create an awareness in everyone about how a persons hands can tell a lot about their life.

DRIP DRAWINGS

Developing on from my pen drawings I am creating drip drawings. I am trying to emulate the sense of time passing and use them almost as a metaphor for things fading, disappearing. By drawing with ink, then passing the drawing through water and hanging it on the wall, the ink drips and original image becomes obscured and literally 'runs' down the paper.

Currently I am working on a personal exploration of memory. Through my work I aim to create a sense of character/personality, subject matter  and location through the use of imagery, prints,  objects and digital media.

In essence my work is based on my Father and is almost a documentation, creating a lasting reminder.  I hope for the observer to be able to associate facets of their past with my work, thereby conjuring up a unique experience for everyone.

Through the use of digital and analogue photography I have built up a solid foundation of imagery from the workshop, the farm and the tractor to use and build from.

Using my Fathers wood turning chisels I have made casts using liquid resin- isolating them from their functional context.  I also experimented with mono screen printing images of these tools and photographing them out of situ from different angles, almost obscuring them.

I am currently making a collection of ‘chisel handles’ on the lathe which have been turned using the given tools.

I am editing a video which I shot on location depicting my Father being interviewed and him passing on his skills to me, his daughter.  It is the recording of a memory.

The development of my drawing skills is based on a collection of pen and ink drawings based on my photographic imagery. Some of these I have printed as digital images.

I plan to create an artist book using my photographic imagery, drawings and text.

Research and contextual study play a massive part in my work. Artists who inspire me include Jim Dine, Alice Maher, Amelia Stein, Patrick Fitzpatrick and William Kentridge.

Photoshop Experiments

I really enjoy working on photoshop, manipulating images, creating your own combinations and changing the origonal format of the photgraphs.

Drawings- PEN AND INK

I invested in some old nibs and a bottle of ink as I wanted to experiment using them as a medium for my drawings. I choose images from the Workshop and the of the Milking Parlour as my basis. I wanted to create a simple yet evoxative images in black and whitre.

LOMOGRAPHY PHOTOS

I love working with my Mini Diana Lomograpgy camera. The unpredictability of the shot excites me and also using double exposure to create ambiant evocative images. The observer can associate facets of their past with objects / imagery which they may have encountered, thereby conjuring up a unique experience for every viewer of these photographs..
